A sneakpeak with mentionmap. This free tool loads each user's Twitter status updates (tweets) and finds the people and hashtags they talked about the most. xefer is not a recent project (2008) but shows a nice mash-up of Yahoo Pipes and the Google Chart API.
Spot by Neoformix offers several views that sort by top five groups of similar tweets, tweets along a timeline based on when they were sent, bar chart with the people sending the most tweets in the set, bar chart showing the tool used to send the tweets (mostly iphone app for C2mtl), tweets that share common words inside large circles and the directly shows word bubbles with tweets attracted to the words they contain (picture below)
